The town of San Gil, dedicated to extreme sports: rafting, zip line, bungee jumping, paragliding….
You will also learn about the history of a brave people, cradle of the Guane tribe, the ethnic group that welcomed the conquistadors and gave birth to the mestizaje.
San Gil awaits you to show you the benefits of its topography, which is bathed by the Fonce, Suarez and Mogoticos rivers, and where there are plenty of caves, waterfalls, trails, spas and natural parks where you can live extreme adventures that you should not miss.
Dare to walk through the city between steep streets to go to the main square or Parque de la Libertad. There you will find, in the shade of centennial ceibas, in addition to a beautiful fountain and the winged statue of the cacique Guanetá, the Cathedral of La Santa Cruz. This construction – erected in the 18th century – in rustic sand-colored stone, is a monumental temple worth visiting to admire the altarpiece of the main altar and the side chapels.
Heliconias, ceibas and mosses are some of the nearly one hundred plant species that refresh the environment in the El Gallineral Natural Park in San Gil. This four-hectare public space is a kind of island formed by two branches of the Curití stream before it flows into the Fonce River.
