To think of Socorro is to remember the rebelliousness and strength of the communist uprising of 1781 and its repercussions in the struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire.

The Historic Center of Socorro was declared a National Asset of Cultural Interest in 1963. Other sites of interest that are worth mentioning are the Puente de los Comuneros and the Casa de la Cultura or Casa de Berbeo and the Cloister of San Francisco.
